14th Annual VW Show Auburn Hills, MI - May 20th, 2001
100th Anniversary of Karman

My wife and I with Peter and Todd adventured from New York/New Jersey to Auburn Hills, Michigan for the VW Car Show. Todd, my wife and I departed New Jersey from Todd's house after an excellent dinner hosted by Todd's father. When I started the engine on VOLKY the engine check light stayed on, but I took a chance and continued the travel. We departed at approximately 7:00 PM. to Naples , NY. When we were getting closer to our first stop (Peter's Mom house), we encountered heavy fog. Todd was following me and he was glad I had the European rear fog light on. He said it does really work, you can see the rear fog light, but not the regular tail lights. Well, yes, we missed the exit we were suppose to take and got a little lost. But finally we made it at 1:00 am. After a cup of hot tea and cookies, we crashed at 2:00 am.

We got up, ate breakfast, washed the "BUGS". Mildred called the local VW Service and they said that if the car runs good, the check engine light is a minor problem with the emissions system and should not affect the performance. Then for a little fun before we start the long drive to Michigan. Peter took us for a tour of the land. Nice views, creeks, ponds and wildlife. Then for a little ride on the ATV. Yes, Todd drove the ATV, but he is an automatic man, so shifting the ATV was out of the question :) Then Jose took it for a spin or two. We departed at about 12:00 PM. We stopped at the border of NY and Canada, USA side and went to the Duty Free Store. Good bargains there!! Then we entered Canadian territory. Peter on the lead took us to lots of beautiful places. For dinner we stopped at the Montana's Cookhouse and had a nice meal. We continued and finally made it to Auburn Hills, MI at about 9:00 PM.

We arrived at the VW Show at about 10:00 am and it was already pumping. We entered and parked. We cleaned the BUGS a little more. What a wonderful day! My wife and I got to meet a lot of wonderful people, old and new friends. Went and pay for the goodie bag. Then a walkathon for the rest of the morning. We saw every single OB and NB and others in the show. We visited the VWoA Museum, bought quiet a lot of stuff. We even encountered a few members of the NewBug List Howie, Rob and Karen. At about 2:00 PM we departed, Peter went his way back to his mothers house (he went through Canada again), and Todd, Mildred and I went south back to NY/NJ through OH and PA. We knew rain was coming soon, so started early. We stayed in PA overnight.

Rainy day . Another five hours or so of driving and back home. Todd made it at about 3:00 PM and we got home at 4:00 PM. Special thanks to Peter's Mom and Todd's Dad for making this trip a better one!!!!!
